Funding Guidelines for Immigration and nationality grants
Applicable purposes:
Applications are invited for the following purposes:
paying application fees and mandatory immigration health charges
appeal application costs
associated costs to meet mandatory requirements of such applications (e.g. Life in the UK Test)
provision of necessary evidence (e.g. replacement copy of birth certificate)
Your Organisation
The charity making the application must be an organisation registered with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner or The Law Society at the appropriate level to advise and assist the applicant with the visa application concerned. No element of the grant will be supplied for paid advice or assistance provided, or any associated administrative costs. However, Legal Aid can be available for a subset of immigration applications and Exceptional Case Funding for others not directly covered.
The Newlands Foundation requires that a charity making application for a grant will expend any funds granted within a three-month period and inform the Foundation of the result of the application once known. Where a grant has been made in support of an application, the applying charity is expected to make every effort to ensure that the application is successful.
Considerations
The Newlands Foundation has limited resources so should be seen as a “last resort” for funding. The Home Office has Fee Waiver arrangements in place for individuals who cannot afford application fees or where the needs of children are affected and other governmental bodies may have similar arrangements Local authorities may have responsibilities to support the individual and/or their family. The applying charity is expected to use such arrangements in preference to an application to the Foundation.
However, applications may be made where such Fee Waivers are not available (e.g. for ILR applications) or where it is not practically possible to apply for them. The Foundation will also consider marginal situations where an application for a fee waiver has been applied for but has not been granted.
